Other diseases such as liver, cancer, congestive heart failure or kidney can result in accumulation of pale yellow or watery fluid in the abdomen (abdominal cavity), which is called ascites. The abdominal cavity and chest cavity are separated from the diaphragm.

How is Ascites Treated?

1. Diuretic

It is treated with diuretics. Increased amount of salt and water in the body thereby reducing the increased pressure near the veins and liver. During treatment with diuretics, the patient’s blood pressure and plus rate are continuously monitored.

2. Acetic Tapping

In this procedure, the water accumulated in the stomach is removed with the help of a needle and tube. The doctor can remove as much as one and a half to two liters of fluid at a time.
